Want to introduce emission quotas
2006 became a period of growth for Grøn Liste. Now they want to put their newfound experience in use by giving the students a cheaper everyday life.
– Grøn Liste (GL) is the environmentally friendly alternative at the Student Parliament. That’s what separates us from the other fractions, says Edvin Sørvik, GL’s man in charge of the election campaign.
Grøn Liste was elected into the Parliament for the first time last year. As a completely new fraction, a lot of time was spent on learning and understanding the routines, such as how to promote issues important to GL. Electronic voting was one of these issues, and the fraction is very happy that this has become a reality at last. This year they are wiser and have larger ambitions than ever before. Most of all, they want to make the University of Oslo (UiO) a leading university when it comes to environmental issues.
More environmentally friendly transportation
– We want to introduce emission quotas. This means paying a small fee every time you travel with an airplane as compensation for the emission made by the plane, says nominee for the Faculty of Social Sciences, Signhild Stave Samuelsen.
The goal is to make UiO, the Student Parliament and The Velferdsting introduce emission quotas for air travel. The fee from the emission quotas goes to environmental measures in poorer countries, carried out by organisations such as the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature and the Future in our hands. Ideally, we would like to see people using more environmentally friendly transportation than airplanes, but when this is the only sensible solution, we feel that it is important to make people aware of the consequences.
– We would also like the University to promote waste sorting on campus, and to have more ecologic food in the canteens.
Cheaper dinner
Grøn Liste also wants to make everyday life cheaper for students with limited means. One goal is that every student should have the choice of an inexpensive meal of good quality.
– We want the student canteens to have a fixed price of 30 kroner. At the moment, the prices are much too high, says Søvik, who explains that for the last couple of years, the profits made by the canteens at the Foundation for Student Life in Oslo (SiO) have been very high. Søvik states that this money ought to be used in order to cut the prices in the canteens.
– We already have The Velferdsting on board, now we have to convince the leadership at the Student Cafeterias.
– Why should the students vote for Grøn Liste?
– They should vote for us if they want a more environmentally friendly university, improved dental and health services, or if they simply feel a bit green when it comes to student politics. If you agree on these things: Vote for us!
