Munch, hyttetur, or vegan cake feast? You decide.
It’s mid-February and we’re halfway through winter! If you think that's a good thing, there are lots of ways to celebrate.
If you feel like starting the cultural treats as soon as possible, Serendip kicked off on Wednesday, and lasts until Saturday. It's a music festival entirely made by and featuring students at the Norwegian College of Music.This year they've got hold of Kulturhuset and Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria as their venues. Plenty of bands, plenty of genres, plenty of people – and it's all free of charge!
This is also the time for Chinese New Year celebrations. Vippa hosts an event all weekend, where there'll be workshops, a language café, karaoke and plenty of other ways to learn about Chinese culture. Dumplings included.
On Friday at 8 PM you can catch singer/songwriter Jonas Alaska at Sentrum Scene. A well-known (and beloved) face on the Norwegian pop scene, he's just released his fourth album. The Switch plays support for what promises to be a great evening.
Saturday sees the opening of a new exhibition at the Munch Museum. «Med lukkede øyne» («with closed eyes») weaves together artworks by Munch and French painter Paul Gauguin. This is a must for art heads!
If art doesn't happen to be your favorite thing, why not jump on the hyttetur at Folkemuseet? Especially for newly arrived students, this is a good way to take part in something quintessentially Norwegian. Eleven AM, remember to wear wool!
Sunday is indeed a good day to spend at Kulturhuset. At 12 PM, the art and design market is opening its doors – wallpapers, cards, jewellery, you name it. Treat yo'self (or buy an aesthetic birthday gift for an aesthetic person).
Last but not least: Sunday is cake day. At Kulturhuset it's even vegan cake day. Bring a cake, a sweet treat or some baked goods, meet other people and nibble on each other's food. What a perfect way to end the weekend.
