A good lunch concept

Despite the «gourmet» in the name is an exaggeration, the concept works as a dream.

On World Vegetarian Day, Thursday 1st of October, potato and leek soup is on the menu at Kutt Gourmet. The queue at the till is not long, but the tables are full of students who eat in pleasant surroundings to loud mp3 music.

We can’t see the food before we buy it, since the soup is served in a closed heat container. Although there is some excitement and curiosity related to what lies beneath the lid, the scepticism is replaced with cheers and anticipation when the lid is lifted. In the container there is a generous portion of delicious potato and leek soup. Garnish of garlic croutons and leek makes it a visually inviting lunch dish, and the soup smells lovely of herbs and onions.

And, yes, it's good. The potato and leek taste is evident, and the croutons give the necessary «crunch.» The soup is just the right temperature, and provides clear associations with cold autumn days. The portion may not satiate a hungry bear, but not to worry: if you buy today's lunch you can help yourself freely from the bread dish, which has wholemeal bread, white bread and wasa.

The meal is no unique gastronomic experience, but the concept works great. Kutt gourmet is a clear reminder that food that’s soon ready for the trash, can be transformed into tasty, creative and affordable dishes. Every day the menu changes and the prices are adjusted accordingly. Blindern students probably have a lot to look forward to.
