Uni to Levy Beer Duty

The new premises of Juristforeningen (the Law Students’Association), Frokostkjelleren, were recently redone. The students are to foot NOK 2 million of the NOK 14-million bill – in addition to a little extra. The University has proposed that this additional student contribution should be financed through a one-kroner fee per beer served in Frokostkjelleren during the first three to four years of operations. The deputy chairman of Juristforeningen, Marie Meling, is surprised at the proposal, which entails that the University’s earnings will rise in accordance with beer sales.

Leak at Chateau Neuf

Due to a poorly installed bracket, causing a pipe to break, water poured from the sprinkler system at Chateau Neuf, drenching the student building at 6.30 p.m. on Friday. Because water had gushed out at high pressure in the fourth floor, pressure in the remaining system fell, triggering the fire alarm at the Oslo fire brigade. Having checked that there was no fire, the fire brigade proceeded to clear away the water, using water vacuums. The extent of the damages continues unclear. The technical equipment at Radio Nova, which has premises immediately below the leak, has been making crackling sounds ever since. The Oslo Shakespeare Company is happy that neither its library, containing hundreds of books, or its computers, were damaged.
