Student HSE

Publisert

A recent study related to Health, Safety and Environmental Issues at the University reports that 74% of students are affected by poor air quality; 65% are affected by noise, while more than half comment on poorly adapted tables and other ergonomic problems. One in five students report health problems resulting from the working environment at the University.

Reported problems include headaches, neck, shoulder, and back pains, as well as allergic reactions and stomach complaints. Student Parliament representative Boel Christensen Scheel says that students’ working environment has to date been given insufficient attention. Now that students are subject to the Working Environment Act, the Labour Inspection Authority is responsible for looking into students’ HSE.

Travel Grants

The Norwegian Student Loan Fund’s travel grant for students studying away from home is under threat, it has emerged following the proposal for the new national budget. Several student organizations are collecting signatures in support of retaining the travel grants on www.reisestipend.no.

So far, 4000 students have signed the petition, and Jørn Henriksen

Chairperson of the Norwegian Students’ Union, believes that the campaign may sway the politicians in favour of preserving travel grants. In addition, student organizations are planning to send thousands of postcards to the Minister of Finance, as well as meeting up for demonstrations.
