Rock am Sogn
A mini festival at Amatøren has become this weekend’s place to be.
På norsk- Due to the many new students who are moving in right now, we simply couldn’t have found a more perfect timing for a festival at Sogn Student Village, says Carline Tromp, the person in charge of Rock am Sogn.
She is counting on close to 200 visitors at Amatøren this weekend, but she has room for a lot more as the student village’s own concert venue houses 350 people.
- Won't steal the audience
The rock festival is organised alongside STUDiO and the two festivals are jointly promoted, but have no direct cooperation.
- We have a common goal for our arrangements, and so we have no reason to work against each other, stresses head of STUDiO, Pernille Mogensen.
Tromp agrees that Rock am Sogn has no plan “steal” the STUDiO-audience.
- STUDiO doesn’t have anything similar going on this weekend. They have the theatre and a few other tings on Friday, but no rock concerts during the weekend. Besides, I doubt they would let us be part of all of this if they thought we’d steal their audience, she says.
Volunteer exchange students
Like STUDiO, Rock am Sogn is based on voluntary help.
- We have asked our regular customers and a few more people. In addition, we have put up posters in English in the area and this has helped us get in touch with exchange students who have just moved in, says Tromp.
She believes that the festival has something genuine to offer.
- We stand out from the other cultural arrangements because we have student prices for all our visitors, and we also have a few local bands.
- On Saturday, Tommy Tokyo is on stage. He is a 70’s inspired singer-songwriter. We’re also being invaded by the label Metronomicon Audio. Trus and the Tress put on quite a show with an accordion, a fiddle and a bouzouki (a Greek stringed instrument, journ.anm). I recommend everything. After all, the people who are organising this event and I have only booked artists that we like ourselves! Trump concludes.
