Deadly Stairs

In May, a professor died as a result of injuries after she fell in the stairs of the Niels Treschow building. Although the director of the Institute of Classical and Roman Studies, Katrine Sinding–Larsen, concluded that the accident would not have been fatal if the stairs had had a banister on both sides, to date, nothing has been done to secure the stairs. If the Faculty of History and Philosophy does not take action, it risks daily penalties from the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority.

Political Debacle

The student organization Studentenes landsforbund (StL) and the Ministry of Education, represented by its Parliamentary Secretary Bjørn Haugstad, are no longer on talking terms, following an exchange of insults. Whereas Haugstad accused the student organization of shouting “wolf” with regard to the issue of student funding, StL has compared Haugstad’s appearance to that of “a thoroughly inebriated man”. StL has now given up communicating with the Ministry’s political leadership, and has instead invited the Committee for Church, Education and Research Affairs to discuss the issue at hand, namely student finances.
