University rush
As Norwegian colleges and polytechnics rush to gain university status in the wake of reforms in higher education laws, The University of Oslo may soon lose its place as the single University in Oslo. Next year, a committee at Oslo University College will assess the possible effects of applying for full university status. BI, The Norwegian School of Management, is said to be concentrating on its application for status as a certified university college, but may be aspiring for fullfledged university status down the line.
Deans propose teaching cuts
One year after the Norwegian «Quality Reform» of higher education, the University of Oslo’s largest faculties are facing significant teaching cutbacks. Due to budget cuts, the study deans of the Faculties of Social Sciences, Arts, and Mathematics and Natural Sciences all propose reducing the numbers of seminars and replacing some lecturers with student teaching assistants.
