Exams to Be Delayed?
2000 academics at the University of Oslo (amounting to half the University’s staff) are ready to go on strike as of 27 May in order to defend their sick pay rights. A strike would lead to an immediate stop to all postmortem examinations at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, interrupt research activities, and threaten student exams. Exchange students and finalyear students would be among those affected, should exams be postponed by several months as they were during the strike in 1998.
School Fees for NonEuropeans?
In connection with recent Swedish and Danish proposals to introduce school fees for nonEuropean students, the NSU (The Norwegian Students’ Union) fears that Norway may follow suit. Bjørn Haugstad of the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research says that, should such a decision be reached in Denmark and Sweden, Norway will not respond by introducing school fees.
