Socialist found
In an article in the January 26 issue of Universitas, Ole Martin Moen
misrepresented my explanation to him as to how a communist society is
possible. Far from a «masse eventyr og drømmeverdener», my explanation is entirely materialist: Human consciousness (not nature) is a result of the society in which we live, not the other way around.
A socialist, and much later a communist, society is brought into being through the conscious and collective action of working people themselves. This occurs first through their revolutionary struggles to overthrow the capitalist state and to gradually replace capitalist economic and social relations with those in which human needs take priority.
Through this revolutionary social and political process human consciousness can be transformed, leaving behind the dogeatdog mentality nurtured by capitalist society.
Mr. Moen’s «drømmeverden»? Elimination of the right to strike, an end to social security programs, and the unfettered reign of the capitalist «Free market». Just ask him.
